Film Locations. Within an hour drive from the bustling capital of Caracas you will find virgin and city beaches, mountains, tropical and cloud forest, inner city, unique architecture, middle class and poor suburbs.
More than an hour out of Caracas you will find flat salt plains, sand dunes, jungle, snow covered mountains, savanna, spectacular Tepuys table top mountains, waterfalls such as the 1km drop Angel Falls, oil wells and fields, the Orinoco Delta, Amazon forest, Coro colonial architecture, national parks, Isla de Margarita tropical beaches and azure seas.
Venezuela has some extraordinary undiscovered locations.
Permits are easy and typically same day or within a couple of days. It is forbidden to shoot alcohol or cigarette commercials in national parks.
When to shoot? Although Venezuela is situated in the tropics, its climate varies substantially from the humid low-elevation plains to the cold glacial highlands. The rainy season is between May and November and the dry season from December to April.

Costs. The favorable exchange rate means that your currency goes far in Venezuela. All the standard crew and equipment are available locally as are film processing facilities. Venezuela offers a similar price point to Cuba and Colombia.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Day rates are very reasonable and negotiated on a personal basis.
Venezuela offers great multicultural diversity similar to what you would find in Brazil or Cuba. Asian and East Indian looks are more difficult to find. Any shortfalls in talent can be easily brought in from Miami.

Local casting facilities are good, but extras usually require street casting.
Creative talent. Venezuela has a rather limited pool of local directors, directors of photography and stills photographers.

Crews are also non-union. Crews are good, hard working, flexible with overtime and turn around times. Heads of department all speak fluent English. Most productions will bring in the DoP, Operator, Art Director and AD but all are available locally.
Fringes. No hidden extras.
Premiums. Venezuela works on a 10 hour shoot day. A break is required every five hours. First 5 hours of overtime is 10% extra and after that 50% extra. Sundays are double time.
Equipment. All standard equipment is available locally. More specialized equipment can be easily brought in from Miami. Please see here for examples of locally available equipment:

Art department and set construction are up to international standards.
Studios. Some options exist although studios are not Venezuela's strong point.
Backlots. At present there are no backlots in Venezuela.
Tax Incentives. There are no tax incentives for feature films or
commercials shooting in Venezuela.
Film Stock. Both Fuji and Kodak are available locally.
Post Production. There are a couple of facilities available locally for processing / telecine.
Visas and Work Permits. Only certain countries need visas and there is
no need for work permits. Contact your local Venezuelan embassy / representative for more information.
Transportation Infrastructure. Many international carriers offer flights to Caracas. Aeropostal and Avensa service Venezuela domestically.

Safety. Despite occasional sensationalist media reports to the contrary Venezuela is actually quite a safe centre for filming. Crime is an issue the same way it is in Rio de Janeiro but with the right production support Venezuela is a safe place to shoot.
