Film Locations. Ancient cities of Samarkand, Tashkent, Bukhara, Khiva, Termez, Margilan, Andijan and Karshi. Uzbekistan boasts a wealth of ancient architecture. Examples include: Registan Square, Ak Saray Palace, Ark Citadel, Kalta Minaret, Tomb of al Termizi, Khudayar khan Palace and many other Islamic and Buddhist cultural monuments. Necropolis, Mausoleums, Mosques, Medressah, Catholic Church. Other locations of interest include: Prehistoric rock carvings of Sarmish Say. Unique Opera and Ballet Theatre. Museums. Marble, granite and ceramic Soviet subway stations. Modern international airport and railway stations. Japanese Garden. Snowy mountains. Rivers. Lakes. Desert.
Permits. Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach.
When to shoot? The continental climate brings long, hot and dry summers and cold winters with snow. The south of the country is generally warmer than the north.

Costs. Locations, local talent and support crew are inexpensive but since little to no filming infrastructure exists all key crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad. Almaty in Kazakhstan is the closest place with equipment and crews.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Uzbekistan offers mainly ethnic Uzbek looks with some Russian and Tajik looks also available. All other talent looks need to be brought in from abroad.
Uzbekistan has no pool of directors, directors of photography and stills photographers.

Crews are non-union. Key crew should be brought in from abroad.
Fringes and Premiums. No hidden extras. No fixed premiums apply. We package deals for local crew / talent.
Equipment. Some very basic equipment is available locally. You will need to bring in most equipment from abroad.
Art department and set construction is very basic.
Studios and backlots. None exist at present.
Tax Incentives. At present there are no tax incentives for foreign
commercials or films shooting in Uzbekistan.
Film Stock. Must bring from abroad.
Post Production. No labs exist locally. We post abroad.
Visas and Work Permits. Entry is subject to regulations from country of origin. Contact your local Uzbekistan embassy or representative for more information.
Transportation Infrastructure. Main roads are up to international standards. Several international airlines service flights to Uzbekistan.

Safety. Uzbekistan is relatively safe for foreigners to visit. At present Uzbekistan's border areas with Afghanistan, Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic are potentially dangerous places to visit. If you must shoot in these areas appropriate personal security measures are recommended.
