Film Locations. Tuvalu is a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean midway between Hawaii and Australia. Its nearest neighbours are Kiribati, Samoa and Fiji. Comprising four reef islands and five true atolls it is the third-least populated independent country in the world. The land is very low lying with narrow coral atolls.
Permits. Permission of locals required.
When to shoot? Long shoot days all year around. Tuvalu has westerly gales and heavy rain from November to March and tropical temperatures moderated by easterly winds from March to November.

Costs. Locations and talent costs are inexpensive but since no filming infrastructure exists on the island all crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad. Tuvalu trades in Australian dollars.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Day rates are
very reasonable and negotiated on a personal basis.
Casting facilities are undeveloped in Tuvalu so street casting is required.
There are very few non-Polynesian looks available locally so those do need to be brought in from abroad.
Creative talent. Tuvalu has a no pool of local directors, directors of photography and stills photographers.

Crews and Equipment. All need to be flown in.
Art department and set construction are very minimal.
Studios and Backlots don't exist.
Tax Incentives. There are no tax incentives for feature films or
commercials in Tuvalu.
Film Stock and Post Production. None available locally.
Visas and Work Permits. Only certain countries need visas and there is
no need for work permits. Contact your local Polynesian representative for more information.
Transportation Infrastructure. Local roads are few and basic. Air Fiji is the only airline that serves Tuvalu.

Safety. Tuvalu is quite a safe place to shoot. Politically stable and low crime rates.
