Taiwan

Film Locations. Mountains, beaches, hotsprings, Asian megacity looks, technology park, Taipei 101 tower, coastal and mountain roads, old Japanese and Chinese architecture, gardens and parks, high speed train.
Taiwan offers a great variety of location looks in close proximity of each other.
Taipei is the main production centre and everything must travel from there.
Permits. Most permits take no longer than a couple of days. More complicated projects can take up to five days. Minor road blocks are possible but locking major city streets although technically not allowed can still be done as long as we are not creating major disruptions.
When to shoot? Taipei has a humid subtropical climate. It is hot and humid throughout most of the year. Most rain falls between February and April and again from May until September. The hottest months are July and August.
For monthly weather statistics please see here.
Please contact us for more specific weather and sun path information.
Costs. Taipei is at a similar price point to major cities in China. The close proximity of locations offers considerable savings to travel related costs.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable.
Asian looks are easy to find but featured talent for all other looks usually needs to be brought in. Some agencies import East European talent providing a small but good pool of Caucasian talent. To view an example of the local talent looks please visit:

Creative talent. Taiwan has a limited pool of local directors, directors of photography and stills photographers.
Please contact us for recommended directors, DoP's and photographers for your project.
Crews are non-union. Taiwan has a fairly good depth of crews. They are known to be quite experienced, fast working and resourceful. As a regional measure, Taiwanese crews are on average more experienced than crews in China. Taiwanese crews are comparable to Thai crews. Other than production staff most crew do not speak English. Crew costs are relatively inexpensive.
Fringes. No hidden extras.
Premiums. There are no night, holiday or weekend premiums. Crew members get paid their day rate for the first 8 hours worked, then another day rate for the next 6 hours, then another day rate for the next 4 hours, then their day rate every 4 hours after that. Some crews have been known to work over 36 hours straight.
Equipment. Taiwan is Arri based and has most standard equipment available locally. Any specialized equipment can be easily brought in from larger production centres such as Hong Kong or Singapore.
Art department and set construction is among the best in Asia. Very experienced, resourceful and inexpensive.

Hong Chen Film Studio (Lighting / no camera)
LAPCC (Studio and post)

Visas and Work Permits. Entry is subject to regulations from country of origin. Contact your local Mozambique embassy or representative for more information.
Transportation Infrastructure is all up to known and expected world standards. Taiwan has an extensive network of roads and a high speed rail link to the more beautiful beaches in the south. Ground transport is the best way to reach locations across the island. Taiwan is so well developed that catering crews do not exist; cooked food is available readily even in the most out of the way places.
