Samoa
Film Locations. Samoa is located east of the international date line and south of the equator, about half way between Hawaii and New Zealand in the Polynesian region of the Pacific Ocean. Samoa consists of two large islands and eight small islets. While all of the islands have volcanic origins only one is volcanically active. Samoa is best known for its rainforest covered volcanic mountain peaks, waterfalls, rivers, white sand beaches that stretch for miles, towering beach cliffs, traditional villages, lagoons, coral reef and surf spots.
Permits. Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach.
When to shoot? Long shoot days all year round. The climate is tropical all year round, with two distinct seasons - the dry season running from May to October and the wet season from November to April.

Costs. Locations and talent costs are inexpensive but since no filming infrastructure exists on the islands all crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Day rates are
very reasonable and negotiated on a personal basis.
Casting facilities are undeveloped in Samoa so street casting is required.
There are very few non-Samoan looks available locally so those need to be brought in from abroad.
Creative talent. Samoa has no pool of local directors, directors of photography and stills photographers.

Crews and Equipment. All need to be flown in.
Art department and set construction are very minimal.
Studios and Backlots don't exist.
Tax Incentives. There are no tax incentives for feature films or
commercials shooting in Samoa.
Film Stock and Post Production. None available locally.
Visas and Work Permits. Only certain countries need visas and there is
no need for work permits. Contact your local Samoan embassy / representative for more information.
Transportation Infrastructure. Local roads are up to international standards. Polynesian Blue, Air New Zealand, Air Pacific and Polynesian Airlines operate international flights from New Zealand, Australia, United States of America, Tonga, American Samoa and Fiji into Samoa.
