Puerto Rico

Film Locations. Old San Juan with its colonial architecture. Small towns. Old forts. Airports. Hotels and resorts. White sand beaches. Turquoise waters. Reefs. Surfing. Waterfalls. Tropical rainforest. Mountains. Rivers. Lakes. Caves.

Permits. Film friendly government agencies. Permitting is a straight forward process. Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach.

When to shoot? Puerto Rico has a tropical climate. It enjoys warm, sunny days for most of the year. The rainy season peaks in August, and rain can be extremely heavy. Between August and November the island is vulnerable to hurricanes.

Costs.
Puerto Rico is one of the more established and expensive film centres in the Caribbean. Crews and talent are union. Puerto Rico trades in the USD.

Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. The majority of Puerto Ricans are a Caucasian mix with some African and Mulatto looks available too. All other looks should be flown in.

Puerto Rico has a very small local pool of directors, directors of photography and stills photographers. Its close proximity to the US allows easy access to those pools of creative talent should you ever need to look further.

Please contact us for recommended directors, DoP's and photographers for your project.

Crews are union. Crews are of a high standard.

Fringe and
Premiums. Union rules apply.

Equipment. Puerto Rico has good standard equipment available locally. More specialized equipment can be easily brought in from major US production centres. See here for examples of locally available equipment:

Art department and set construction is of a good standard but on the expensive side.

Studios and backlots. None exist at present.

Tax Incentives. At present there are no tax incentives for foreign commercials. See here for incentives for feature films shooting in Puerto Rico.

Film Stock. Both Kodak and Fuji are available locally.
