Nauru
Film Locations. Nauru is a small oval-shaped island nation in the Micronesian South Pacific, 42km south of the Equator. Nauru is the world's smallest island nation, covering just 21km². It is the least populous member of the United Nations. The island is surrounded by a coral reef, exposed at low tide and dotted with pinnacles. The reef is bound seaward by deep water, and inside by a sandy beach. The only fertile areas are the narrow coastal belt, where coconut palms flourish. The land surrounding Buada Lagoon supports bananas, pineapples, vegetable, pandanus trees and indigenous hardwoods such as the Tomano tree are cultivated.
Nauru was one of three great phosphate rock islands in the Pacific Ocean however the phosphate reserves are nearly depleted. Phosphate mining in the central plateau has left a barren terrain of jagged limestone pinnacles up to 15m high.

When to shoot? Long shoot days all year around. Typical Pacific Island weather with warm clear days and stormy evenings. The climate is hot and humid, with a wet season from May to November.

Costs. Locations and talent costs are inexpensive but since no filming infrastructure exists on the island all crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad. It is possible to get similar location looks in less expensive and better serviced production centres.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Day rates are
very reasonable and negotiated on a personal basis.
Nauru offers a combination of Micronesian and Polynesian looks.
Creative talent. Nauru has no pool of local directors, directors of photography and stills photographers.

Transportation Infrastructure. Nauru is a small island with an encircling road that runs for 19km. Air Nauru is the national airline of the country and connects it with Pohnpei, Manila, Guam, Tarawa, Suva-Nadi, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.
