Film Locations. Sahara desert. Oasis scattered throughout. Granite mountains. Roman ruins such as the theatre in Sabratha and town of Leptis Magna.The town of Ghadames is built in the middle of an oasis. Islamic architecture. Beaches. In Tripoli you can find the Al-Saraya Al-Hamra castle, the Al medina Al Gadima, bazaars and souks.
Tripoli is the capital city and most likely place to base your production.
Libya is slowly starting to open up to the world. It is a beautiful country with a great deal of potential.
Permits. Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach.
When to shoot? The coastal area has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and rainy winters. Further south towards the Sahara desert the climate is characterised by very hot days and very cold nights. The coldest month is January, the hottest August. The rains prevail from December to February; the temperate season continues from March to June, and the hot season lasts from July to November.

Costs. Locations, local talent and support crew are inexpensive but since little to no filming infrastructure exists all key crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad. Many of the best locations are quite far from any major cities which can add considerably to travel costs.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable.
Libya offers mainly North African looking talent with some Arabic looks available too. All other talent needs to be brought in from abroad.
Libya has no local pool of directors, directors of photography and stills photographers. Its close proximity to major European production centres allows easy access to those pools of creative talent should you ever need to look further.

Crews are non-union. Key crew should be brought in from abroad.
Fringes and Premiums. No hidden extras. No fixed premiums apply. We package deals for local crew / talent.
Equipment. Only the most basic equipment is available locally. You will need to bring in most standard equipment from abroad.
Art department and set construction is very basic.
Studios and backlots. None exist at present.
Tax Incentives. At present there are no tax incentives for foreign
commercials or films shooting in Libya.
Film Stock. Must bring from abroad.
Post Production. No labs exist locally. Post abroad.
Visas and Work Permits. Entry is subject to regulations from country of origin. Contact your local Libyan embassy or representative for more information.
Transportation Infrastructure is all up to known and expected world
standards. Libyan airlines fly domestically. Several international airlines service flights to Tripoli.
