Guyana

Film Locations. Guyana can be divided into four natural regions; a narrow and fertile marshy plain along the Atlantic (low coastal plain) coast where most of the population lives, then a white sand belt more inland (hilly sand and clay region), the dense rainforests (Forested Highland Region) across the middle of the country, the grassy flat savannah in the south and finally the larger interior highlands (interior savannah) consisting mostly of mountains that gradually rise to the Brazilian border. Guyana also offers beaches, rice fields, British colonial architecture, and high floral and faunal biodiversity. Guyana's most notable location is the majestic Kaieteur Falls.

Guyana Film Location Permits. Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach. Please contact us for location specific information.

When to shoot? Guyana has a subtropical climate with long sunlight hours all year around marked by uniformly high temperatures, humidity and rainfall. There are two wet seasons - May to July and November to January.

For monthly weather statistics please see here.

Please contact us for more specific weather and sun path information.

Costs. The favorable exchange rate means that your currency goes far in Guyana. Locations, local talent and support crew are inexpensive but since little to no filming infrastructure exists all key crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad.

Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Day rates are very reasonable and negotiated on a personal basis.

Casting facilities are rather undeveloped in Guyana so street casting is often required.

Most Guyanese are East Indian and Afro-Caribbean. Some mixed and Amerindian looks also exists. All other looks need to be brought in from abroad. English is the official language.

Creative talent. Guyana has no pool of local directors, directors of photography and stills photographers.

Please contact us for recommended directors, DoP's and photographers for your project.

Crews are non-union. Key crew must be brought in from abroad. Supporting crews speak fluent English.

Fringes and Premiums. No hidden extras. Guyana works on a twelve hour day. No fixed premiums apply. We package deals for local crew / talent.

Equipment
needs to be brought in from abroad. Basic equipment can be brought in from Venezuela. More specialized equipment can be brought in from Miami.

Art department and set construction is very limited in Guyana.

Studios and backlots. None exist at present.

Tax Incentives. At present there are no tax incentives for foreign commercials or films shooting in
Guyana.

Film Stock. No film stock available locally. Best to bring in from Miami.

Post Production. No post production facilities exist at present. Rushes go to Miami.
