When to shoot? Climate depends on the altitude and proximity to coast. Asmara is temperate all year around. In the highlands summer peaks in May and winter between December and February where it can get to freezing during nights. On the coast summers are very hot peaking between June to September. December and February is the rainy season. The western lowlands climate is comparable to that of the coast.

Costs. Locations, local talent and support crew are inexpensive but since little to no filming infrastructure exists all key crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable.
Eritrea offers mainly North African looking talent. All other talent needs to be brought in from abroad.
Eritrea has no local pool of directors, directors of photography and stills photographers. Its close proximity to Dubai and major European production centres allows easy access to those pools of creative talent should you ever need to look further.
