Dominica
Film Locations. Second largest boiling lake in the world, hot springs, cascading rivers, black and gold sand beaches, easily accessible romantic waterfalls, scubadiving coral walls, mountainous lush rainforest terrain, swamps and jungle looks, tropical plantations, Creole architecture, villages that can double for Mexico or Africa, secluded modern mansions, old fort ruins, colourful Creole carnival celebrations.
Roseau is the capital and most likely place to base yourself. Miami is the closest major production centre and a short 2.5hr flight away.
Permits. Film friendly government agencies. Permitting is a straight forward process. Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach.
When to shoot? Dominica is one of the wetter countries in the Caribbean. It has a hot, subtropical climate throughout the year. The thunderstorm and hurricane season is from June to October.

Costs. The greatest cost is the need to bring in
your key crew and equipment but that is offset by the low costs of local
talent, locations and supporting crew.
Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Most Dominicans are Afro-Caribbean. Dominica also offers some Amerindian, Caucasian and Lebanese looks. It is also home to the few remaining Carib Indians in the Caribbean. There is also a pool of American students eager for background work as extras.
Creative talent. Dominica has no pool of local directors, directors of photography and stills photographers.

Local crews speak English but since little depth exists it is advisable to bring your key crew from abroad. Dominica also offers good local diving support.
Fringes and Premiums. No hidden extras. No fixed premiums apply. We package deals for local crew / talent.
Equipment needs to be brought in from abroad.
Art department and set construction is limited in Dominica. Key crew are best brought in from abroad. Supporting crews are strong having had serviced many international productions including two of the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Studios and backlots at present do not exist in Dominica.
Tax Incentives. There are no tax incentives for foreign feature films or commercials shooting in Dominica.
Film Stock. No film stock available locally. Best to bring in from Miami or Mexico which have both Fuji and Kodak available.
Visas and Work Permits. Work Permits are required. Application for waivers must be submitted at least 15 days prior to arrival.
Transportation Infrastructure. Main roads are up to international standards. Several international airlines service flights to Dominica.
