Barbados

Locations. Barbados is the easternmost Caribbean island. It is very flat. Much of the country is circled by coral reefs. Surfing. White sand beaches and turquoise waters. Cruise ships. Tropical Gardens. Unique pastoral landscapes. Plantation Houses.

Permits. Permitting in Barbados is a very straightforward process requiring usually no more than one week for permits.

When to shoot? Barbados has beautiful weather most of the year. The average sunshine hours per day are eight to 10 from November to March and eight to nine from April to October. Tropical storms and hurricanes may occur between June and November but this period is usually limited to brief rain showers. Barbados is often spared the worst effects of the region's due to its far eastern location.

Costs. Since little to no filming infrastructure exists all key crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad. Miami is the closest major production centre and is only a 3.5 hour flight away.

Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Most citizens are of Afro-Caribbean descent with some East Indian, Middle Eastern and Caucasian looks also available. All other talent looks need to be brought in from abroad. Miami offers a deep multicultural pool of talent.

Barbados has no pool of directors, directors of photography and stills photographers. It's close proximity to Miami and other major US production centres allows easy access to those pools of creative talent.
